Bourg de Pabos, Gaspésie, Quebec, 2024
In their ongoing quest to improve their visitor experience, the Parc du Bourg de Pabos administrators called on the expertise of XYZ Technologies to design an immersive experience enhanced by augmented reality glasses. This renewed collaboration between the two teams resulted in Fantöm: the Hunt, a sweeping interactive and immersive experience that audiences of all ages can enjoy on île Beauséjour in Chandler, Québec. This unique hunt for spirits is nestled in the heart of the magnificent Grand Pabos Bay.
The activity allows visitors to dive into the fascinating history of the Grand Pabos seigneury, an experience that is truly groundbreaking due to the unique combination of interactivity, technology and historical narrative. Today, at 1.2 km, it stands as the longest augmented reality outdoor trail in the world. Two distinct activities are offered: a daytime version that lets guests explore the Île Beauséjour forest with a seasoned archaeological guide, and a nighttime edition that plunges visitors into near-darkness on a nocturnal trail where spirits act as storytelling guides. Over 1,000 lantern installations light the way, making the experience even more hauntingly spectacular.
This ambitious project perfectly captures the XYZ Technologies spirit. It mobilized our team’s knowledge and expertise to launch an entirely new type of experience. In essence, producing this groundbreaking scenographic and technological innovation called for a far reaching concept, from historical and archaeological research to content creation, scriptwriting, outdoor sound design and more.
We also developed the gaming mechanic and rules, which is made up of a points system to increase visitor engagement throughout the experience. The user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) were carefully designed to ensure the most comfortable and intuitive navigation.
From a technological standpoint, our programmers were tasked with developing a new Android application to power the augmented reality headsets. The application runs the simulation and animation of 15 objects and 18 characters, as well as the integration of 300 soundtracks. Additionally, the team relied on advanced software like DeepMotion and Audio to Face for motion capture and to create realistic animations.
From ideation to delivery, the XYZ team worked tirelessly to ensure the quality of the visitor experience, maintaining an equally high caliber of collaboration with the team from the Bourg de Pabos Corporation. As a result, we were able to create an exciting, never-seen-before journey that delights and amazes all who experience it.
