The Caf’ Conc’ venue, nestled in the heart of Montreal, draws inspiration from the refined luxury and celebrated pomp of the Parisian café concerts of the Belle Époque era. At one time an iconic cabaret that featured world-renowned artists, this intimate locale has been transformed into a deluxe performance space, with every technical detail carefully considered to deliver an unparalleled experience to audiences.
The XYZ Technologies team had the privilege of leading this turnkey project, overseeing the journey from 3D modelling to installation in a space that was not equipped with any audiovisual infrastructure. Our experts applied their unique knowledge and artificial intelligence software to reconstruct a three-dimensional model of the room from just a few photographs. This step was crucial in enabling the precise planning and placement of the principal sound system, achieved despite the total lack of existing plans.
With its distinctive architecture, soaring ceilings and multi-level tiers, the Caf’ Conc’ presented a world of accessibility challenges. To overcome these, we made use of high-end motorised projectors (ETC Moving Lights), letting us highlight specific people, artists or event elements with unparalleled flexibility. Unlike fixed projectors, these versatile units can be programmed remotely, eliminating the need for cumbersome technical interventions high in the air.
Collaborating closely with Creativ Nation, the subcontractor that manages the cabaret for the Montreal Marriot Chateau Champlain hotel, we created an audiovisual communication system entirely adapted to the specific needs of the site. Our technical director designed and developed a network of switchboards that are discreet, performant and thoughtfully integrated with the existing aesthetic.
The greatest challenge of this ambitious mandate was integrating cutting-edge technology without compromising the elegant, upscale atmosphere of this storied venue. Concealing all the necessary audiovisual cables was an enormous task, as the walls and ceiling had been so recently renovated and finished. Scaffolding had to be erected throughout the hall to install pipes suspended above the audience, as well as loudspeakers and projectors.
This hidden gem is ready to shine once again. Now lavishly equipped to present variety shows, intimate performances and acts of national and international prestige, the venue can continue in the same spirit as some of the most famous cabarets in the world.
