Rouyn-Noranda, Québec, Canada, 2016
Rouyn-Noranda is the capital of the Abitibi-Temiscamingue administrative region in north-western Québec. The city government wished to highlight its city hall as well as the place de la Citoyenneté et de la Coopération (Citizenship and Cooperation square), which borders the building. Both are in the heart of the city, the square being a favourite location for various citizen gatherings.
XYZ Cultural Technology drafted the plans and designed the architectural lighting for Rouyn-Noranda city hall and Citizenship and Cooperation square.
The two lighting systems are discreet and well adapted to their surroundings. They are easily controlled remotely so that the colours can be changed to highlight important events. They are also exceptionally robust to be able to withstand the frigid Abitibian winter climate, which often reaches 20 degrees below zero Celsius.
This project is proof that it is possible to achieve maximum impact with well-integrated lighting on a reasonable budget.
